Veritas is a Christian organization that seeks to make a positive difference in the lives of the people of Sighisoara through service to the community, a variety of educational programs, and intercultural exchange.
Veritas has grown from small beginnings in the volunteer activities of American students, to become the largest non-profit organization in Sighisoara, providing social, material, educational and spiritual support to over 300 people a week. Petronia Popa is the Executive Director.
Since the beginning Veritas has been an intentionally ecumenical Christian organization. Staff represent the major ethnic groups of Transylvania – Romanian, Hungarian, German, Romanian, and Roma – and belong to a variety of churches: Romanian Orthodox, Reformed, Lutheran, Nazarene, Catholic, Brethren, Adventist, Pentecostal, and charismatic. We seek to live out the unity in diversity that Christ expects of His followers as we serve others in His name.
Veritas is a member of FONPC, a national federation of non-profit organizations working on behalf of children and of the National Coalition to Combat Domestic Violence. Veritas is accredited as a Social Service Agency by the County of Mures. It is also recognized as a Compassionate Ministries Center of the Church of the Nazarene, and a participant in the Nazarene Child Sponsorship Program.
Staff and volunteers at the Veritas Family Center impact the lives of children and families in Sighisoara, Romania. This short documentary tells the story of a father who participated in the children’s program as a child and now brings his own child to the Veritas kindergarten. The documentary was produced by Evangeline Baudains as part of her senior documentary project work at Bournemouth University in 2014.
