Details

Type: Project

Period: October 2017 - March 2020

Location: Sighișoara

Beneficiaries: Children, Teenegers, Families

The Veritas Foundation has participated in a project for three years, "Mainstream Sighișoara - European investment for social inclusion". Veritas provided socio-medical assistance services and some of the educational components of the project, together with the Sighișoara City Hall, the "Miron Neagu" State Gymnasium and the Roma Community Resource Centre in Cluj. The project was co-financed by the European Social Fund, through the Human Capital Operational Programme 2014 - 2020.

For over 20 years, Veritas has been taking the pulse of the social needs of the Sighișoara community. Needs identified for this project have included health services (along with social services), vocational training, housing, education and anti-discrimination training. The grant was approved and the project started in October 2017 and continued until March 2020, when it ended prematurely due to the Covid pandemic.

Partnering to find solutions to community needs is not common. A reward was the partnership within the "Mainstream Sighisoara" project between the City Hall, Veritas Foundation and Miron Neagu State School.

Petra Popa (Executive Director of Veritas) managed the grant for Veritas and, along with many of the staff, spent hours working with the partners to ensure that the paperwork was completed and that all the details of the grant were satisfactorily finalised. Most of the employees were involved in the project, and the funds were also used for the social canteen (meal program for children and teens), which provided them with breakfast and lunch daily based on attendance.

This grant marked another step in the on-going collaboration between the Veritas Foundation and Sighisoara institutions, for the benefit of the Roma and the entire community.
